In a powerful display of determination and talent, children with disabilities from 10 special needs schools in Luwero district came together to participate in an inclusive sports gala organized by the Uganda Society for Disabled Children (USDC).

The event, held at Nsawo Church of Uganda Primary School, aimed to promote inclusive education and challenge the notion that disability is inability.

The sports gala was part of USDC's inclusive education program, which provides support to children with disabilities through adaptive teaching methods, assistive technology, and vocational skills training.

The event was attended by district officials, parents, and well-wishers, who witnessed the impressive display of skills and teamwork among the participating students.

Ms. Dolorence Were, Executive Director of USDC, emphasized the importance of inclusive education and sports in empowering children with disabilities.

"This event is about celebrating the impact of our disability or para sports program that trained 20 coaches in Luwero and Jinja five years ago," she said.

"We are proud to see our students thriving in sports and education, and we urge parents to continue supporting their children."

One of the beneficiaries of USDC's program, Nazibanja Irene Hope, expressed her gratitude for the organization's support.

"USDC has empowered me through education, mentorship, and investment," she said.

"This inclusive sports gala brings us together and shows that disability is not inability."

The event also featured remarks from district officials, including Nabwire Christine, who represented the education department.

She appreciated USDC's support for teachers and students and encouraged parents to continue sending their children with disabilities to school.

USDC plans to take the children with disabilities to participate in the Paralympics in Masaka in October 2025, pending financial support.

The organization hopes to continue providing inclusive education and sports opportunities to empower children with disabilities and promote their inclusion in society.

The inclusive sports gala was a resounding success, showcasing the potential of children with disabilities and highlighting the importance of inclusive education and sports in promoting their empowerment and inclusion.
