Starting with university professors, medical personnel, scientists, and lawmakers, it has since consistently tackled sector by sector, and by the end of the financial year 24/25, all public servants will have a smile on their faces.
"Next on the salary increment plan are the UPDF soldiers of the lower ranks till the corporals and that starts in the first week of the Financial Year 24/25," Bitarakwate said.
This she said ahead of the Africa Public Service Day commemorated every June 23 to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community.
It is also a day to highlight the contribution of public service to the development process, recognising the work of public servants, acknowledging the work of public servants in the country, and encouraging young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
The commemorations reflect on the performance of the sector, its mission, objectives, challenges, and success.
Under the theme, "Empowering a citizen-centric public service for an inclusive and thriving 21st century Africa", this year's celebrations started on Friday, June 21, with a sports gala.
It will be concluded on Thursday at the Kololo with President Museveni as the guest of honour.
However, with all the celebrations going on, the public servants have been dissatisfied with the returns they get from their work even with the increment.
There have been recurrent protests by professional groups such as doctors, science teachers, and university lecturers.
"We know that the public servants would have loved to see the increments at once but we are taking time and handling sector by sector since the country's revenue is not overflowing for huge chunks to be got off for salaries," Bitarakwate said.
The Ministry of Public Service will clean the Katanga zone in Wandegeya to ensure that hygiene is prioritised.
The day is set to start with a convergence of the ministries, departments, and agencies at the City Square, walk to the Kololo Ceremonial grounds where there will be an exhibition from different ministries of the services they render to the public and also showcasing how the country runs.
