Police have said they will not hesitate arresting members of the opposition who participate in the planned protests over potholes in Kampala roads.

“We know there are many potholes in the roads but blocking them(roads) will be an inconvenience to others. Whoever is got will be arrested and taken to courts of law,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said on Wednesday.

During a joint press briefing on Tuesday, opposition politicians said they are planning a protests on Thursday against the state of roads in Kampala.

To this they asked members of the public to join them by blocking roads which have potholes.

“Wherever you are, get a banana plant, yam or potato vein and plant it wherever there is pothole,” Alliance for National Transformation’s Winnie Kiiza said.

Speaking on Wednesday, Owoyesigyire said police have not yet received any notification about the planned protest but noted even if it was to come, they would not allow blocking of public roads by the opposition.

“ It is unlawful to close a public road without informing authorities. We ask them not to dare do it since we shall be ready for them.”
