Vice President, Jessica Alupo has urged Muslims to always promote peace and unity in the country.

Speaking during an iftar dinner organized by the Uganda Muslim Supreme  Council at Old Kampala Mosque, Alupo said NRM government has ensured security and peace in every corner of Uganda, urging Muslims to always promote peace.

“Government wants to use all avenues to bring peace through inter-Religious Council of which UMSC is a member, through cultural institutions etc.  All these efforts are intended to consolidate peace and freedom of assembly,” Alupo said.

She urged Muslims to use the holy month of Ramathan to reflect upon the importance of discipline, devotion, humility and sacrifice, to reaffirm the bonds that draw communities together.

“ Ramadhan becomes an occasion to remember that Islam gave birth to a rich civilization of learning that has benefitted humanity. As government we appreciate the Muslim community for sharing your time with us during this special period.    We should live by example and encourage all other Ugandans, most especially the employers to show empathy towards Muslim workers during the period of Ramadhan, so that they can fulfill this great pillar of the faith.”

Alupo said government will continue to partner with the Muslim leadership and community in development and household wealth creation

"We  continue to urge the Muslim community to embrace government programs using your rich UMSC structures that blossom from the headquarters to the 10 Muslim regions, 78 Muslim districts, 788 Muslim parishes and the grass root registered 15,341 mosques in the country.
