JUST IN: Former Mulago Hospital director gets bail relief

Dr Buterana faces charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss to the government.

The Anti-Corruption Court has granted a Shs10 million cash bail to former Mulago Hospital executive director Byarugaba Baterana.

Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe on Monday asked for three days to review the bail application for Dr Buterana and seven others, who are charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss to the government.

The court is yet to decide other seven people equally battling 18 counts related to misuse of office and causing financial loss to the taxpayer money.

They include former Mulago top administrators Eng Edward Kataha, Kenneth Wafula, Adah Kamucunguzi, Perezi Matanda, Charles Mwasa, and Ponziano Nyeko.

The officials allegedly authorised payments to Setramaco Limited and Convention World Limited for services not rendered.

The owners of these companies, Catherine Winifred Nabwire and Robert Wasike, were also arrested on similar charges.
