Over 180 Golfers Battle for Honours as KCB East Africa Golf Tournament Climaxes at Serena Kigo

More than 180 golfers from five East African countries converged at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa for the second edition of the KCB East Africa Golf Tournament, a regional competition that brought together players from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

Held under the theme “Roar on the Green,” the tournament attracted golfers competing in four-ball teams as they battled for top honours on one of Uganda’s premier golf courses.

The competition featured players with valid handicaps registered under the CDH system and was played using the Stableford format, a points-based scoring system that rewards consistency and strategic play.

The tournament also provided a platform for golfers, corporate leaders and industry stakeholders to network while promoting the growth of the sport across the region.

KCB Bank Uganda Managing Director Edgar Byamah said the tournament reflects the bank’s broader interest in strengthening regional connections through initiatives that bring communities and businesses together.

“The KCB East Africa Golf Tour goes beyond the fairways to build trusted relationships and regional networks. Golf, like banking, is built on precision, integrity and a long-term perspective,” Byamah said.

The event was supported by partners including ICEA LION Insurance, Kenya Airways, CFAO and Ruby Hospital.

In the competition results, KCB Group 1 emerged as the overall winners after scoring 110 Stableford points. The winning team comprised Lawrence Kimathi, Banza Matsiko, Mark Namanya and Moses Matsiko.

Ernest Rukundo claimed the men’s individual title with 41 points, while Berna Musanabera won the ladies’ category after recording 35 points.

Golf Director Theodor Van Rooyen said the tournament showcased strong competition and teamwork, with Uganda’s top performers earning a chance to represent the country at the regional finale scheduled for Nairobi in December.

Beyond the competition, organisers incorporated environmental conservation activities through KCB’s Go Green Campaign. Ahead of the tournament, 300 trees were planted at Serena Kigo as part of a wider initiative aimed at planting 15,000 trees across Uganda.

The tournament concluded with the 19th Hole All-White Party, where players, partners and guests celebrated the competition and the teams that qualified for the Nairobi finale.

The second KCB East Africa Golf Tournament continues to highlight golf’s growing role as a platform for sports development, regional interaction and community engagement.
