Buddu County football team has received a significant boost in its preparations for the upcoming Masaza Cup after the office of former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi donated 20 footballs to support training.
The donation was delivered by Ssekandi’s aide, Oscar Mutebi, who handed over the equipment on behalf of his boss in a gesture aimed at strengthening the team’s readiness and morale.
Mutebi said the support is part of Ssekandi’s continued commitment to youth development and sports promotion within Buganda.
“Rt. Hon. Ssekandi believes in empowering young people through sports. These footballs are meant to help the Buddu team train effectively and compete strongly in the Masaza Cup,” Mutebi said.
“We are confident that with proper preparation, Buddu has the potential to bring the trophy home,” he added.
The Buddu county chief, Jude Muleke, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and crucial as the team intensifies its preparations.
“This support has come at the right time as our team gears up for the Masaza Cup. We appreciate Rt. Hon. Ssekandi for standing with Buddu,” Muleke said.
“I call upon all our people—leaders, fans, and well-wishers—to rally behind the team with both moral and material support so that we can bring the Masaza Cup trophy back to Buddu.”
He emphasized unity and commitment among players and supporters as key ingredients for success in the tournament.
Team officials also expressed gratitude, noting that access to adequate training equipment has been one of the challenges affecting performance.
The annual Masaza Cup tournament, organized under the Buganda Kingdom, brings together counties to compete in football, fostering unity, talent development, and cultural pride.
Buddu, a historically strong contender, is hopeful that with increased support and improved preparation, the team can reclaim its glory in this year’s competition.
