Fred Kerley, a two-time Olympic 100m medallist, was arrested in Miami on Thursday for allegedly punching fellow athlete and former girlfriend Alaysha Johnson at a hotel in Dania Beach.
The incident occurred ahead of the second Grand Slam Track meeting, where both athletes were scheduled to compete.
Kerley, 29, has been charged with one count of "battery-touch or strike," according to an arrest report from the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
CBS reports that Kerley appeared in court on Friday and was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
His attorney, Richard Cooper, stated, "We are confident that this case will be summarily dismissed shortly."
Grand Slam Track confirmed Kerley's arrest and announced he would not be competing in the weekend events.
The organisation said the matter remains under investigation and declined to provide further comment.
Johnson, 28, is an Olympic hurdler and was also set to participate in the meet.
Kerley, who won silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and bronze in Paris 2024, was slated to race in the 100m and 200m events in Miami.
He had competed in the inaugural Grand Slam Track event in Kingston, Jamaica, last month.
BBC Sport has contacted both the Broward County Sheriff's Office and Kerley’s representatives for comment.
