Gov't imposes restrictions in Kampala due to Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries has swiftly enforced stringent quarantine measures in response to an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Kabowa, Lubaga Division, Kampala District.
Dr Anna Rose Ademun, Commissioner of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized the necessity of these measures.

“Following the reported outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Kabowa, Lubaga Division, Kampala, Kampala District on February 28, 2024, quarantine restrictions are hereby imposed on Kampala District under the Animal Diseases Act, cap 38,” she stated.
The outbreak, officially recorded in February, has prompted the implementation of quarantine restrictions by the Animal Diseases Act, cap 38.
Ademun said the movement of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and their products and by-products within Kampala Capital City Authority, Kampala District, is strictly prohibited until further notice.
She further declared the closure of livestock markets, and slaughterhouses, including butcheries, loading grounds, and animal shows throughout the entire district with immediate effect.
In adherence to the Animal Diseases Act, Cap 38, local government administrators, enforcement personnel, and the public are urged to comply with these quarantine measures diligently.
Emphasizing the urgency of containment, Ademun stressed the importance of swift action to mitigate the spread of FMD and safeguard livestock populations.
These measures are implemented with the primary goal of preventing further transmission and protecting the health and well-being of both animals and residents in Kampala District.
