ANT, PFF Move to Harmonise Candidates in Ntungamo

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) are finalizing joint candidate selections in Ntungamo District as parliamentary nominations draw near, aiming to strengthen their chances of winning key seats.

ANT district coordinator George Karamira said discussions are ongoing across the district’s constituencies.

“We have not yet entirely harmonized the final directions to take but discussions are on the ground. For Kajara, it’s sorted, but in other constituencies, we are yet to finalize,” he noted.

In Kajara County, both parties have agreed to back PFF’s Venensias Ahabwe, while in Ruhama Main County, PFF will support ANT’s Humble Muchurezi.

The coalition is also evaluating candidates for Ntungamo Municipality and Rushenyi, where multiple aspirants from both parties have shown interest.

Perez Rumanzi, PFF spokesperson in Ntungamo, emphasized the strategic nature of the alliance.

“We are looking at the municipality, Kajara, and Ruhama where we shall field joint candidates as ANT and PFF. In Ntungamo Municipality, so far there are two PFF candidates and one for ANT. We will see whether ANT supports a PFF candidate or vice versa,” he explained.

Rumanzi added that the alliance seeks to leverage the district’s political significance as the birthplace of former ANT leader Mugisha Muntu.

“We want to ensure that where we put a candidate, they have the highest chance of winning, considering the circumstances around NRM primaries and the relative strength of our parties. Where ANT is strong, we field an ANT candidate; likewise for PFF,” he said.
