NUP missing persons: Govt denies knowing whereabouts of six more
Relatives of 18 National Unity Platform(NUP) supporters who went missing nearly four years ago almost shed tears after the prosecutor announced that the government is also on the hunt for John Ddamulira who skipped bail while facing arson charges.
The Attorney General has also denied the charges against the five other NUP members wanted by the court and will resume hearing on 3rd May 2024, for the prosecution to respond to the evidence.
As usual, relatives of the wanted NUP members attended the High Court hearing on Wednesday.
The court was held behind closed-door and government presented more affidavits, denying having anything to do with the arrest of six of the said missing persons
Prosecution lawyers said Ddamulira was released on bail after he was arrested in October 2020 but skipped the bail.
Evidence from police intelligence confirmed that Ddamulira was arrested for arson at Kisekka and was released on bail in October 2020 and never appeared again although NUP claims he went missing in November
Relatives of the missing were further shocked with other evidence denying five of the 18 others person. The government says it does not know the whereabouts of Michael Ssemudu, Peter Kirya, Mustafa Luwemba, George Kasumba and Godfrey Kisembo.
The same court will now resume on May 3 for prosecution to respond to the presented evidence.
