VAR: UCC offside, goal disallowed

Opinions

Early this week, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) scored a late goal against media houses, ordering for the immediate suspension of 39 producers, heads of programming and news managers.

UCC scored in the dying embers of the game, following a long spell of Bobi possession by media houses. The media houses were playing long balls to Magere and dumping crosses into streets where citizens were jumping over hard tackles by the police and dribbling military.

The game was given an additional 5 minutes after one of the players was fouled and taken off the pitch to an unknown destination. It is at this very time that UCC sprinted to the goal and scored against the media following a very long through pass from government.

UCC tapped ball into an empty net, when the goal keeper for media houses, NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) was at the sidelines coming to terms with the events of the match.

In fact, NAB ran towards UCC after the said goal and tried to let him know the goal was scored irregularly. NAB told UCC that scoring such goals undermines the quality of the game.

When we consulted the VAR system, we discovered that indeed, UCC scored an offside goal which should not stand under any circumstances.

Such a goal undermines this game and therefore a violation of rights and freedoms of the players.

The manager of the team UCC plays for, therefore needs to reign in on the matter, this particular player has been scoring goals of the nature instead of scoring in normal play.

The VAR therefore directs that the ball be returned to the Media House goal side for a goal kick. A yellow card has been given to UCC and he is advised to score the goals in normal time.

The media still retain their away goal against UCC and the game can now continue.. we expect fair play to the end.
