Water could be the next cause for a world
By Gore Ruvimbo
Water obtained through natural occurrences can lead to a world war, ridiculous right that.
According to a report by The Guardian columnist George Monbiot the popular reports in the media have not fully realised how water shortages can disturb world peace.
Water is essential to human existence as others say water is life. It is important not just for food but for nature balance. Monboit says that we are already maxed out on water since 90 percent of the fresh water goes to agriculture.
As some may think that irrigation makes it all go away, the ground as already given up so much thus changing the earths spinning.
“The water required to meet growing food demand simply does not exist," he says.
If we are ever to solve this problem then crop production should grow by 50% in the next 26 years sadly water is already used up hence other measures are needed.
Well convincing people to change their diets is a start. First an animal free diet can work since it reduces crop demand because few animals will need feeding and much food will be made available for humans.
Far from animal feed, there are crops that require much water hence wiping them off the food budget can also aid to the matter.
Thirsty crops like rice, wheat and sugar have consumed twice the amount of irrigation water since farmers found it cheaper and easy to utilise ground water.
The big question now is, is the world ready for these measures? New dietary measures are only a part of it but what of those in the agriculture business. Are these business people ready to cut on production to save the next 25 years?
The bigger picture is we are already out of water hence we need to act fast.
