Over 35000 locals to benefit as NWSC extends clean water to Kigungu landing site
National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has launched three public water points to extend clean water to residents in Kigungu landing site IN Entebbe.
The project will see over 35,000 people living along the shores of the Lake have access to clean water.

The General Manager of NWSC in charge of Entebbe area, Gloria Bashemera said the three public water points have been launched following the outcry from the residents.
“These will offer water at the lowest tariffs . NWSC gives you water at shs 25 only given that Kigungu residents are low earners and we expect them to benefit from this project," Bashemera said.
She noted that the earlier reports by health and area leaders in Entebbe had indicated rising cases of Bilharzia disease which results from drinking contaminated water.
Entebbe Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Hakim Kirigwa said the area has been facing challenges of poor access to clean water despite people live near the Lake.
“Residents also find it difficult to move to Entebbe through Kigungu road which is in a poor state but we assure the public that the road will be worked on.”
The RDC said the leaders from Entebbe are traversing the entire area especially landing sites to find solutions to challenges affecting residents with support from the government.
The LC5 councillor for Entebbe Municipality, Ssempebwa Steven Sulait said there were rising cases of Bilharzia around the landing site due to consumption of contaminated water.
“We thank very much NWSC for making efforts to extend cheap and clean water to our community," he said.
However, he also decried the management of Entebbe Girl’s School in Entebbe that he accused of trying to evict people from the landing site over land matters.
“As a district, when we are issuing out the land title, we give conditions on how to utilize the property. We know it legally, that while utilizing the area near the lake, one must occupy at least 200 meters from the lake. We shall not allow the management of Entebbe Girls School to chase away people like that. Soon, we shall write to them to come and explain to us their intentions and we appeal to all stakeholders to intervene and help our people."
