The cultural leader of Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba, Retired Colonel Martin Ayongi Kamya, has introduced his queen consort, Nabantu Betty Mbabazi, to his cabinet, chiefs, Kusei members, and subjects.
This momentous event, held at the Nkisya Royal Palace in Bundibugyo District, marks a significant chapter in the history of the kingdom.
The Nabantu, daughter of Alicyaha Salezio and Gerades Kabonesa, is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting the traditions and values of Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba, a cultural institution officially recognized in 2014.
The institution encompasses three tribes—the Babwisi, Bamba, and Bavanoma—and was carved out of the historic kingdoms of Tooro and Rwenzururu in 2012.
The grand ceremony at Nkisya Royal Palace drew hundreds of subjects, who gathered to witness King Ayongi Kamya unveil his queen consort.
Sacred cultural rituals, in keeping with the kingdom's customs, were performed for the Nabantu, symbolizing her formal integration into the royal family.
Charles Bukantwa, the Prime Minister of Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba, praised the king’s decision to marry, emphasizing the Nabantu’s potential to support the monarch in serving their people.
King Kamya highlighted the importance of marriage in fostering peace and unity within the kingdom.
The queen consort expressed gratitude to the king for his love and pledged her support in addressing family and societal matters, further strengthening the kingdom’s harmony.
This historic event reinforces the cultural identity of Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba and ushers in a new era for the institution under the leadership of King Kamya and his queen consort.
