Kampala residents to get new mosquito nets in malaria control program

In a bid to curb malaria prevalence in Uganda the ministry of health is set to distribute mosquito nets in the five divisions of Kampala including; Rubaga, Nakawa, Makindye, Kawempe, and Central division.

Speaking to journalists in Kampala, the programs manager malaria control, Dr Jimmy Opigo explained that 1,444,928 nets will be distributed to 2644,382 people.

"The distribution will be conducted at designated distribution points in the villages. These points are the same as polling stations like schools, worship places and community grounds, " Opigo said.

The distribution exercise will start on Saturday 24th February 2018.

"Distribution centers will be open by 7:00am so we call on everyone who registered to keep time," Opigo added.

Rubaga division will get 357,964 nets, Nakawa 313,714, Makindye 353,935, Kawempe 302,774, Central division 116,541.

While Kampala has a 1% malaria prevalence there are some communities that could be at risk of getting malaria. These are urged to utilise the nets given.

Since February last year the ministry of health through the national malaria control program has distributed nets 115 districts where a total of 19,160,875 nets have been distributed protecting over 38M people
