Latif Ssebaggala: Voters begged me to return to Kawempe North

Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Latif Ssebaggala has said that the voters in Kawempe North asked him to contest for the same position in the 2021 general elections.

Ssebaggala has moved back and forth, on the position he will contest on in the forthcoming elections, declaring interests to run as Kampala lord mayor and later on resigning after securing the National Unity Platform flag.

On Sunday, Ssebaggala shocked mourners at the burial of his elder brother, Al Hajj Nasser Ntege Sebaggala when he announced that he was to contest in Kawempe North come 2021.

On Monday, Ssebaggala held a press conference to this effect and said that voters asked him to return.

Ssebagala said: "After wide consultations, the people of Kawempe North asked me to return to parliament because I have served them diligently and my record is clear."

Speaking to NBS Television later on Monday evening, Ssebaggala added that a politician should never be rigid and as a 'senior politician', he could not ignore the voice of the people.

"You remember very well that our background as NUP is People Power and if the people have asked me to return, who I am I to refuse that?," Sebaggala asked.

Ssebaggala also refuted claims that he was undecided having oscillated between the positions of Lord Mayor and Kawempe North.

At the time Ssebaggala declared interest to run in Kawempe North, NUP, a party he subscribes to, had already handed its flag for Kawempe North to Mohammed Ssegirinya.
