Equal Opportunities boss ‘rushes’ to Kadaga as staff petition Museveni, IGG to intervene

The chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC),Sylvia Ntambi was today spotted at Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s office in what some said was a last minute attempt to salvage her name as she battles corruption charges in court.

Her meeting with Kadaga came a day before she is scheduled to appear before the Anti-Corruption court to answer 25 charges related to abuse of office.

According to the charge sheet, Ntambi is accused of “neglecting her duties of directing the affairs and administration of the commission thereby leading to gross mismanagement of the commission’s funds.”

Ntambi joins other suspects from the same commission who were charged last year but are now out on bail.

It is not clear what she discussed with Kadaga in an hour long meeting but sources at parliament said the meeting could be connected to her current troubles.

The meeting also came after some members of staff of EOC wrote toPresident Museveni and the Inspector General of Government (IGG), accusing Ntambi of running the commission as family business.

"The chairperson has usurped the powers of the secretariat by micro managing the commission affairs for example allocation of office space instead of focusing on strategic matters," the concerned staff stated oin their petition.

They accused her of unfairly terminating the contracts of most of their colleagues.

They wrote: "Ever since her tenure commenced in 2016, she has unfairly dismissed over 11 staff, terminated 10 staff, not renewed contracts of over four staff."
