Bobi Wine, Zaake fooled themselves into boxing SFC soldiers, paid heavily - Museveni

President Museveni has again commented on the fracas that marred Arua town on the eve of the municipality by-elections in 2018.

In August 2018, chaos ensued in Arua town when Kassiano Wadri’s supporters allegedly attacked President Museveni’s convoy on the eve of the Arua municipality by-elections prompting security to arrest over 30 people including Members of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi, Kassiano Wadri, Paul Mwiru and Gerard Karuhanga and detain them.

Speaking in his latest missive, Museveni said MP Zaake and a few other he termed as a misguided group are being used by foreigners to destabilize the country.

“In Arua, they stoned my vehicle and attacked NRM supporters who were coming from my rally.  They had even driven a road grader (tinga tinga) all the way from Kampala, I think, to use in ramming our vehicles (kutomera).  The SFC soldiers in a disciplined way delivered me to the helicopter first and went looking for the ring-leaders – Bobi Wine, Zaake and others, “Museveni said.

The President explained that when Special Forces Command soldiers arrested the legislators from a nearby hotel, the group allegedly tried to fight back by boxing the officers.

“These wonderful gentlemen tried to assault our soldiers with punches.  The soldiers punched them back until they subdued them.  It is very impressive that the soldiers never used guns against Bobi Wine and Zaake in the hotel rooms where they were making a fool of themselves trying to box soldiers as if they were boxing village thieves,” Museveni said.

The President insisted that the two people have been in collusion with people he termed as “foreign enemies” to infiltrate security agencies with guns to kills demonstrators and put the blame on government.

He however noted that government is patiently following up on them and that they will eventually be defeated.

“We have defeated them and we shall unearth them.  The NRM Government, which Zaake calls “the regime”, is the enemy of the people because it has closed people’s businesses.  According to Zaake, by the Government suspending economic activities that were going to result in mass deaths as has happened in other countries, it became the enemy of the people.”
