East and Central All Africa Challenge trophy tees off, Zambia misses out

The East and Central All Africa Challenge trophy golf tournament has teed off today at Entebbe Golf Course in 54-hole play championship.

Uganda the hosts, Kenya, Tanzania are the only three nations taking part after Zambia pulled out at the last minute. The event started today 24th-26th October at per 71 golf course.

Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka, Gloria Mbaguta and Martha Babirye are four female golfers representing Uganda that he 5th edition of the East and Central Africa Regional Challenge Trophy tournament teed off today at Entebbe Golf Course.

Two times defending champion Zambia pulled out of at the last minute and missed the flag raising graced by the speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga that happened yesterday.

This means the battle is of East Africans namely Kenya, Tanzania and the hosts Uganda.

The best 3 gross scores each round count for each country’s score and the country with the lowest gross score over the three rounds is declared the winner of the team event.

An individual with the lowest gross core over three rounds will win the individual category.

Uganda’s team captain Irene Nakelembe was the first Ugandan to be in action at 9:00am facing off with Tanzanian Iddi Madina in round 1c of the competition. Peace Kabasweka, Kenyan Agnes Nyakio Kitua and Tanzanian Neema Olomi are in the cluster.

Margaret Njoki Muchino from Kenya, Martha Babirye from Uganda and Angel Eaton from Tanzania played each other.

Left-handed golfer from Uganda Gloria Mbaguta, Kenyan Mercy Nyachama Nyabende and Hawa Wanyeche from Tanzania were to grouped together.

The tournament was started in 2009 by the golfer who is minister of Works and transport Monica Ntege, when she was the trustee of the region. The event will climax on 26th October with awards giving ceremony.
