Uganda Ladies' Golf Union has named the team to represent Uganda in the East & Central All Africa Challenge trophy to be hosted at the Entebbe Golf Club from 22nd to 26th November 2019.
Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka, Gloria Mbaguta and Martha Babirye are the golfers to represent Uganda. The team was named today at Isuzu head offices Old Port Bell Road, Kampala.
A team of four female golfers is set to represent Uganda in the 5th East & Central all Africa Challenge tournament to be hosted in Uganda at the Entebbe Golf Club from 22nd to 26th November 2019.
The team is composed of team captain Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka, Gloria Mbaguta and Martha Babirye.
Players were unveiled and flagged off Thursday at Isuzu MAC East Africa head offices Old Port Bell Road where was supported with a cheque 7000 USA dollars courtesy of Mac East Africa.
Team Uganda also got training boost from Gk Gibby Kalule former SC villa star who has catered for all training expenses of the players. The team starts residential training Friday at Entebbe Golf Course.
According to Eva Magala, the President Uganda Golf Club Ladies' Union, the team is set for the task ahead. “As team manager and lady president, I think I have selected the best team to represent Uganda. As the host we will do the best to win the trophy," Magala said.
As the sponsor the team, Isuzu Mac East Africa Country General Manager Khadr Mohammed says that the money is meant to ensure the team is motivated and tournament is well organized.
Team captain Irene Nakalembe and players vow to win it for Uganda for the first time. “As Uganda we need to win this torophy because it is the second time we are hosting it. We have looking forward to win it. As the host we need to work hard to make Uganda pround,” says Nakalembe.
The East & Central All Africa Challenge Trophy was started in 2009 by the golfer who is minister of Works and transport Monica Ntege, when she was the trustee of the region.
The teams will compete in a 54-hole stroke play, playing over 3 days of 18 holes each.
The best 3 gross scores each round count for each country’s score. The country with the lowest gross score over the three rounds is declared the winner of the team event.
Tanzania and Zambia have both have won the trophy twice since its introduction. This will be the second time Uganda is hosting and will be looking forward to sin it for the first time.
Uganda Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia are the participating countries.
