Maroons Football Club has received Shs10 million from Centenary Bank to facilitate the team in the 2019/2020 season.
A cheque of Shs 10 million was handed over by the Bank to the commissioner of Prisons yesterday at prisons’ head of office, along Parliamentary Avenue, Kampala.
Maroons FC’s good performance so far has already yielded fruits.
This is a Shs 4 million increment on the Shs 6 million they received last season.
The Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija said this is a timely shot in the arm that will go a long way in improving player welfare.
He said that the money will help the club to finish in better position in the 2019/20 season.
“I want to assure you that we shall put the money to good use. We are going to make sure that that we excel in what we do as far as Maroons FC is concerned,” said Byabashaija.
He said the money will be put into good use to satisfy the desire of the club.
Michael Jjingo, the General Manager Commercial Services at Centenary Bank said Maroons is one of the clubs in Uganda where corporate companies can invest their money due to their promising results.
“As a bank we decided to partner with Maroons face, we looked at Maroons FC as a successful team. Maroons is among government institutions that have helped to promote young talent, from athletics,
football to netball, a reason why we shall continue supporting them," Jjingo said.
Coached by ex-Sports Club Villa boss Douglas Bamweyana, Maroons has won three games in the Startimes Uganda Premier League so far.
They lie third on the table behind leaders SC Villa and Onduparaka.
