Business on Monday came to a standstill at the Makindye Chief Magistrates Court after an elderly man collapsed and was pronounced dead during proceedings.
Ephraim Kizito, 70, had come to court to accompany his wife, Rosemary Kizito who was facing charges of assault before Grade two Magistrate, Robert Okipi.
Kizito who stood surety for his wife on Monday came to listen to the proceedings sat quietly in the magistrate’s chambers listening to the proceedings but was seen collapsing and was shortly pronounced dead.
“Court was immediately adjourned and the unfortunate incident was communicated to the Resident Divisional Commissioner Makindye and the Divisional Police Commander for Katwe,” the judiciary said in a statement.
“Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs) were dispatched to the Court to conduct preliminary investigations on the cause of death. The Police, accompanied by relatives, later took the body to the City Mortuary for post-mortem.”
The Judiciary Chief Registrar Esta Nambayo said they will be waiting for the postmortem report to get to know the exact cause of Kizito’s death.
