Muntu blasts Kibuule over NRM comments

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Mugisha Muntu has dismissed State Minister for Water, Ronald Kibuule’s invite to join him and others in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Kibuule through a column in the New Vision newspaper openly suggested the Muntu joins the NRM as solace following his defeat to Patrick Oboi Amuriat in the recently concluded party presidential elections.

Kibuule claimed that internal divisions are eating up FDC “following Muntu’s humiliating defeat.” He adds that Muntu’s supporters are not willing to come to terms with the loss and they accuse their opponents of character assassination.

He then goes ahead to suggest that Muntu joins the NRM because it is the home of consensus.

However, Muntu in a cheeky jab dismissed Kibuule’s proposal, dedicating him a song by Ugandan gospel artiste Coopy Bly dubbed; Sida Mukyalo (I can not return to the village).

“Hon Kibuule, I hope you spare time in your busy schedule to listen to this talented Ugandan gospel musician. He speaks the truth,” Muntu said.

Many have since Muntu’s loss insinuated that the former army commander could be slipping out of the party, but he has refuted the claims.

Meanwhile this is not the first time NRM big wigs are suggesting Muntu’s transfer to Kyadondo road from Najjanakumbi.

In March, Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Mr Hilary Onek said that NRM party was sweet talking the country’s main Opposition FDC party president and former army commander, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, to return to the fold.

In April 2017, the NRM Secretary General, Ms Kasule Lumumba said the Mugisha Muntu is a man of unmatched character and a possible replacement to Yoweri Museveni. She said that since FDC’s getting into power is impossible, only NRM would be able to utlise Muntu.

Immediately after Muntu’s loss, Presidential Press Secretary, Don Wanyama soothed him with a message; “Seek a new political home.” Although he did not elaborately urge him to join the NRM, Don was clear Muntu should quit the FDC.

In November 2017, while appearing on Capital FM’s Gang show, government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said Muntu is not FDC class. He said that the former army commander needs a party that will respect him and that is only NRM, urging him to sign transfer papers as soon as yesterday.
