MPs to present parallel report against age limit Bill

Legislators sitting on the Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee who are opposed to the lifting of the Presidential age limit have vowed to present a parallel report on the now controversial Constitutional amendment Bill 2017.

Lwemiyaga County Legislator Theodore Ssekikubo says following the rules of procedure of parliament, they have already notified the Committee chair about the minority report, hence also warning the anticipated heavy deployment of security at Parliament ahead of the long awaited debate

The Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee Chaired by MP Jacob Oboth Oboth for the last three days had been engaged in a closed door meeting putting down the long anticipated report after interfacing with a number of stakeholders on the Controversial constitutional amendment bill 2017.

But as the Committee Chairperson Jacob Oboth Oboth prepares to present the majority report on the floor of Parliament, committee members opposed to Article 102b also intend to present a minority report according to Lwemiyaga county legislators Theodore Ssekikubo.

Ssekikubo however says other amendments in the Bill except article 102b were unanimously supported by the all the committee members involved in the writing of the report.

Ssekikubo has also defended the decision by legislators to invite voters to witness the tabling of the age bill report.
