Police looking for suspects captured in CCTV video strangling,robbing boda boda rider

Police has started investigations into the gruesome murder of an unidentified boda boda rider by assailants who were captured on video by a CCTV camera.

The one minute video shows two men who pretended to be passengers on a boda boda ask the rider to stop after reaching their destination but in the process, they strangle him before repeatedly hitting him on the head with a huge stone killing him instantly.

The thugs later took off with the motorcycle.

According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning at Kakeeka Zone, Rubaga Division, in Kampala district.

“The video was captured on the CCTV cameras of a nearby nursery and primary school. It was retrieved by the police and widely circulated for the public to help in the identification of the two male suspects. The body of the deceased was transported to the city mortuary for further post-mortem examination,”Enanga said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

“At the moment, our cyber forensic experts are analyzing the CCTV footage for facial recognition and formal identification of the suspects, as well as the registration number plates of the stolen motorcycle.”

He added that Old Kampala police is also engaging managers of all boda boda stages, whose members could have disappeared or anyone that might have knowledge about a missing rider or the two male suspects, to contact police.

“Additional teams from the homicide and Flying Squad departments, have been dispatched to Old Kampala Divisional headquarters, to assist in identifying the suspects and tracking them down for arrest.”

He however warned boda boda riders of continued threats against them through robbers who pose as clients, urging them to avoid night transactions as well as carrying more than one passengers.

A number of boda boda riders have in the past been killed in a similar manner in various parts of the country before their motorcycles are taken.
