LOP Winnie Kiiza dares Amuriat to sack her

The Leader of the Opposition Winnie Kiiza has dared the new FDC party president, Partick Amuriat to execute his threat of disbanding the opposition leadership in parliament.

Kiiza who supported Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu in the recent FDC presidential elections told The Nile Post that she was ready for any consequences including being removed as leader of the opposition.

Kiiza who is also Kasese Woman MP said it is the moment of truth for a team that castigated Gen Muntu for constituting the shadow cabinet after a group FDC leaders who support Dr Kizza Besigye, opposed the move.

“I expect them to write to parliament to say they are not going to constitute the leadership in parliament because that is what has been their message. They said they believe in one party and one strategy so let them walk the talk,” Kiiza said.

She said there are aspects of defiance that cannot work and others that can work pointing it out as the reason why they previously pursued two prong  approach of defiance and structure building at the same time.

Kiiza said defiance may work in some instances but parliament sometimes requires people to sit down and negotiate over certain positions.

“That’s why I may disagree with my leadership at Najjanankumbi because when they tell me to defy when I think it requires organization, then I will defy them," Kiiza said.

Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda, the opposition whip, also dared the Amuriat to make true his threats of disbanding the leadership of the opposition in the house.

In the aftermath of the highly contested presidential 2016 elections ,FDC wrote to parliament proposing to appoint a minority leader, because they claimed they had won the elections.

The request lacked a legal backing and was thrown out

Amuriat who is the minister of Works in the "people's government" led by Dr Kizza Besigye now faces a reality test as eyes turn on him to see if he can make true his earlier position.

Gen Muntu was flanked by 14 FDC MPs who do not subscribe to the defiance campaign.
