National Planning Authority says Ugandans need more technical skills than degrees
Youths want to participate in key decision making programs.

The board of the National Planning Authority has recommended to government to put a moratorium on elevating technical institutes into public universities arguing the country now has enough degrees and what it needs are skilled people from technical institutions.

On Monday, while interfacing with Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, the board also raised concern that government had not utilised the 22 Industrial parks that were established in 1999.

Dr. Joseph Muvawala the executive director of the National Planning Authority advised government to have  industrialists represented on the National curriculum board if the education sector is to produce skilled labour.

He said the country has many people with degrees and what it lacks are skilled people from technical institutions.

The authority also warned on how majority of the Ugandan employees with training in oil exploration and management have not been certified by the responsible international bodies.
