Fort Portal: One dead in car fire

BRIDGET KABAHENDA

One unidentified person has been confirmed dead and others injured in West division Fort Portal municipality Kabarole district following a car caught fire along Kasaija road in Kisenyi lorry park.

The incident occurred when a lorry Reg. No. UAW 038N that was carrying fuel in plastic tanks to unknown destination hit the hump that blew off the tanks' lids leading to an explosion.

It is alleged that the victims were collecting fuel from the lorry before the explosion occurred.

The deceased had parked his motorcycle along the same road when the lorry exploded burning him beyond recognition as he was trying to rescue his motorcycle.

The police fire brigade found hard time to reach the scene and contain the situation due to the large crowds of people who had gathered to witness the accident.

However locals accused the fire brigade of reaching late hours after the explosion.

Bandeba Festus deputy Resident District Commissioner Kabarole said investigations into the matter are underway by joint security organs to ascertain the main cause of the fire.
