Singer and Lord Mayor hopeful Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone, was yesterday denied entry to Luzira prison where he had gone to visit fellow singer cum politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
Chameleone, who was in company of singer Nubian Li, Mityana legislator Francis Zaake Butebi, Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze, and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago were denied entry on the basis they had not been cleared by the Prison’s boss.
“Today morning I woke up and went to Luzira Maximum prison to Visit my comrade, Bobi Wine, I was informed that I had to get clearance from the Commissioner General,” Chameleone said.
“I tried to negotiate but it was all in Vain! Nevertheless, I pray for you my brother, Be strong as ever. Thanks everyone who has made effort to visit our brother,” he added.
According to Bobi Wine’s Facebook Page, a few people managed to access him.
“He remains as solid as ever. He asked us to thank the nation for standing with him. He asked us to thank all people from around the world for standing in solidarity with Uganda. He repeated it that he is glad to put on the yellow uniform, be forced into his holding cells at 4:00pm, and sleep the way he does, not because he has stolen public funds or killed someone, but because he has dared to speak out against injustice and oppression.”
“He sent thoughts to the people who have been arrested, teargased and brutalised for standing alongside him to demand for dignity and freedom. He is encouraged by the great display of love he received from the thousands of fellow prisoners who have been defiantly chanting and singing songs of freedom from the time he arrived there. Even when he is not permitted to interact with, or even be seen by most of them, they are aware that he is around! Before the visitors left, he asked to lead them in singing "Tuliyambala Engule" and made a solemn prayer for our nation. He is as optimistic as ever that Uganda will be free”
Government maintains that the singer has cases to answer in regards to disobedience of statutory orders and should face the law. Calling upon him and his supporters to avoid politicising matters.
