A 65 year old German national Bernhard Glaser Bery was yesterday charged with 19 counts of aggravated child trafficking and 8 counts of defilement at Masaka Chief Magistrates court.

He was remanded to Masaka prison.

Glaser is believed to have disguised himself as a Good Samaritan to lure poor children into his home in Kalangala under the disguise of offering them free education, shelter and a better life.

He stayed with his victims at his humanitarian home, Bery’s Place & Ssese Humanitarian Services in Kalangala from 2006 according to CID spokesperson Vincent Ssekate.

Ssekate said: "We first received complaints about Glaser in 2013, on allegations of sexual abuse against the girls under his care in his home. The matter was investigated and police rescued over 40 children. He was charged with aggravated child trafficking and rape then’’.

Glaser was later acquitted by the High court due to lack of evidence.

Ssekate said the affected minors when requested to testify in court then, hesitated in fear of losing the benefits offered by Glaser.

"The DPP had to retrieve the file that was closed in 2013 because there were no witnesses then. Fortunately the same witnesses have now testified," he said.
