Museveni sacks Nantaba, offers Shs 100 million to Ssebulime's family

President Museveni has sacked the minister of state for ICT, Idah Nantaba and ordered that investigations into the killing of Ronald Ssebulime be expedited by the police.

In a press release sent to media houses today morning, the president said he had relieved the minister of her duties to allow investigations into circumstances under which Ssebulime was killed.

The president also condoled with Ssebulime's family and said government will provide Shs 100 million as compensation.

"I have been informed of the unfortunate incident and I have spoken to the minister Nantaba. I have told her to step aside as we investigate the killing. There should be no cause for panic," the statement read in part.

On Sunday March 24, Ssebulime was shot dead by policemen attached to Naggalama police post reportedly on the orders of the minister. The minister claimed ssebulime had trailed her from Kayunga and feared that he was an assassin.

It later turned out that Ssebulime has been innocently killed in cold blood as the minister's version greatly differed from that of eye-witnesses. The police issued a statement and apologised for their gross misjudgement.

Senior residential Press secretary, Don Wanyama described the reports of Nantaba's sacking as fake news and disowned the release.

"I think Nile Post is being  taken for a ride. The president has not sacked anyone. Be careful because  today is April 1, Fools Day," Wanyama said.
