Minister Nantaba survives assassination

The State Minister for ICT and also the Kayunga woman Member of Parliament, Aidah Nantaba has survived an assassination.

The incident happened in Naggalama along the Kayunga road when assailants travelling on a motorcycle opened fire on the minister’s car prompting his guards to return fire.

In the exchange, one of the assailants was killed.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga confirmed the incident but said he would issue a full statement later.

When we tried to contact Nantaba, she rejected our calls.

However, the legislator sent an update via WhatsApp to a parliament group where she confirmed the incident and said: "I am traumatised".

"God is great, I survived death from nasty assailants who opened fire on my car around Nagalama! Am still traumatised but praising God for the survival."

A number of high profile persons have in the past few years been killed using the same method by assailants moving on motorbikes.

Over 10 Muslim clerics were killed by assailants moving on motorcycles but Sheikh Yunus Kamoga, the former leader of Tabliq mosques and five other people were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment and 30 years in jail over the murders.

Maj.Muhammad Kiggundu, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, ASP Muhammad Kirumira, Joan Kagezi and Col.Ibrahim Abiriga have too been killed in the same fashion by unknown assailants moving on motorcycles who after shooting, take off.

President Museveni last year said the days of the assailants killing Ugandans were numbered after the installation of CCTV cameras.

Dealing with urban criminals is now going to be simpler. It is one of the smallest problems I have solved in last 58 years,”Museveni said during the commissioning of CCTV  cameras at the temporary command centre located in Nateete in October.
