A joint operation by CMI and Uganda Police has seen the apprehension 9 suspected new recruits of the ADF from Purongo sub county Nwoya district.

According to the RDC Nwoya Akello Agnes Ebong, the recruitment of ADF rebels is allegedly led by a one Abdul Amhed Hassan who operates between Nwoya, Kampala and Busia.

Ebong said most recruitment is being carried out in the mosques in the district

Ebong said: "CMI has identified one Abdul Amhed Hassan as the one recruiting from Nwoya, Kampala and West Nile for ADF."

Prossy Aol, a 19 year old who was netted in the operation said they were hoodwinked into accessing Islamic training in Kampala, something that lured them.

“We left on 9th /02/2019/ from Nwoya. We were told we are going to school. We reached Kampala and we were informed the school is full and told to get a bus to Kasese. On reaching Kasese, we were informed there is no school until we were intercepted by the Police," she said.

Nwoya district chairman Patrick Okello Oryema attributed the rising crime to unregistered refugees and visitors from DR Congo.

He said four members of different families had been handed back to their family members after interrogation by both CMI and Police.
