The Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prof. Grace Lubaale, has urged Christians to emulate the example of St. James by remaining steadfast in their faith and pursuing their goals despite challenges and obstacles.
He said trials and tribulations are inevitable but encouraged the faithful to remain calm, resilient and determined, just as St. James did.
“Challenges will always be there, but the solution is to calm down. Many faithful always come to me with challenges, but the constant answer I give them is, ‘Calm down,’” Bishop Lubaale said.
The Bishop made the remarks during a luncheon hosted by the Hotel and Tourism Training College (HTTC) on Sunday, July 26, for members of St. James Church, Jinja, as part of activities marking St. James Day.
While welcoming the guests, HTTC Principal Richard Kawere highlighted the historical significance of the college's application hotel, Crested Crane Hotel, noting that it has hosted every Bishop of Busoga Diocese over the years.
“The Crested Crane Hotel has been part of the livelihood of people in Jinja, and when the old structure was demolished to pave the way for this new infrastructure, we decided to create a small museum to preserve the memories of the old hotel,” Kawere said.
Kawere also revealed that the college currently has an enrolment of about 1,500 students across three learning models: conventional, apprenticeship and short-course programmes.
He called on parents and the wider community to prioritize education as a key driver of societal transformation.
“We support needy students through our Kyabazinga Community Scholarship, and we also offer sports scholarships for exceptionally talented young people,” Kawere said.
St. James Day, also known as the Feast of Saint James, is observed annually on July 25 in honour of James the Great, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. The day commemorates the traditional date of his martyrdom in 44 A.D.
