The announcement was made on Monday by Adjumani District LCV Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo, who chairs the district's Central Organising Committee.
Ambayo said the committee is working closely with the central government, security agencies, religious leaders and the bereaved family to ensure a well-coordinated and dignified farewell befitting one of Uganda's longest-serving political and military leaders.
"We are planning for an estimated 25,000 mourners to attend the funeral at Paridi Stadium. We want every arrangement to be in place to ensure the ceremony is orderly and dignified. However, we are waiting for the final official programme from the government before confirming the schedule," Ambayo said.
According to preliminary information available to the committee, Ali's body is expected to lie in state at Parliament on Tuesday, where legislators and national leaders, including President Museveni, are expected to pay their final respects before the body is airlifted to Adjumani District.
The tentative programme indicates that the body will arrive in Adjumani for a night vigil before the official burial on Wednesday. However, district leaders stressed that the schedule remains subject to change pending official communication from the government.
During the committee meeting, Adjumani East MP James Mamawi, who had joined the bereaved family, briefed members on the anticipated state programme and urged residents to remain united during the final send-off.
"It is time for us to unite and accord Ali a befitting farewell because his achievements are unmatched. This is a moment for all of us to honour a leader who dedicated his life to serving Uganda and the people of West Nile," Mamawi said.
Preparations are also underway at Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village, where workers have begun digging the grave ahead of the Islamic burial.
Alhajji Imam Yusuf Baraka, the Imam of Taqwa Mosque, said the early preparations are intended to ensure the burial proceeds smoothly in accordance with Islamic traditions.
"We have started preparing the grave early so that everything will be ready when the body arrives. We pray that Allah grants the late Gen Moses Ali eternal peace," Imam Baraka said.
Following the official state funeral and public viewing at Paridi Stadium, the body will be taken in procession to Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village, a short distance from Gen. Moses Ali's residence, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
Ali died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala on Saturday. He served Uganda for decades in several senior leadership positions, including Second Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County.
His death has drawn tributes from leaders across the country, who have described him as a patriot, statesman and one of the architects of peace and development in the West Nile sub-region.
As Adjumani prepares to receive thousands of mourners from across Uganda, district leaders have appealed for calm, cooperation and unity to ensure the late general is accorded a dignified farewell.
