Government Announces Official Burial Programme for Gen Moses Ali

The Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, who also chairs the National Organising Committee, has announced the official burial arrangements for former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West Member of Parliament, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali.

Gen Moses Ali died on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital.

Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, Babalanda said in line with Islamic traditions, special prayers were held on Sunday, July 19, at Naguru Mosque, the Islamic University in Uganda–Kibuli Campus, Kibuli Mosque and Old Kampala Mosque.

She added that, in accordance with Article 99 of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda, President Museveni directed that Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali be accorded an official burial.

A National Organising Committee was constituted, comprising representatives from the Office of the President, Parliament, the UPDF, the Uganda Police Force and the bereaved family.

The committee convened on Sunday, July 19, to finalise the burial arrangements.

The official programme begun yesterday,  Monday, July 20, 2026, with Cabinet paying tribute to the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali at State House at 10:00 a.m., followed by a vigil and private prayers at his residence in Naguru at 5:00 p.m.

Today,  Tuesday, July 21, President Museveni is expected  to pay tribute and officiate as Chief Mourner at parliament, before legislators hold a special tribute session at 10:00 a.m.

Later at 2:00 p.m., the body will be airlifted to Abiri Chako Village in Adjumani District, where an official vigil will be held at 5:00 p.m.

The final day of the burial programme will take place on Wednesday, July 22, in Adjumani. A West Nile Regional District Council sitting will be held at Paridi Stadium at 10:00 a.m., followed by prayers leading to the burial ceremony at noon.

Vice President Jessica Alupo will represent the government at the burial.

Babalanda called on Ugandans to join in honouring the legacy of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali and to stand with his family during the mourning period.
