The ISA League title race is beginning to take shape, with Aga Khan Hawks and Aga Khan 47z emerging as the early pace-setters after two matchdays of action.
The two Aga Khan alumni sides maintained their unbeaten runs over the weekend, occupying the top two positions on the table and setting up a highly anticipated clash next Saturday that could have major implications in the championship race.
Beyond the football, Matchday Two continued to showcase the growing appeal of the ISA League, with alumni, families and supporters turning up in large numbers to create an atmosphere that combined competitive football with community engagement and networking.
Aga Khan Hawks strengthened their position as early favourites after securing two victories. They fought back to defeat Rainbow OGs 2-1 before producing the weekend's most convincing display with a 3-0 win over SVKDS.
The results extended their unbeaten run to four matches, with the Hawks collecting a perfect 12 points while displaying a balance of attacking quality and defensive organisation.
Ryan Rukundo was central to their success, earning Player of the Matchday recognition after scoring a hat-trick against SVKDS. He had earlier contributed a goal and an assist in the comeback win against Rainbow OGs.
Aga Khan 47z also enjoyed a perfect weekend, recording victories over SVKDS and Taibah Olympians to remain firmly in contention.
They defeated SVKDS 1-0 before recovering from an early setback to beat Taibah Olympians 2-1, collecting six points to move to second place with 10 points.
Captain Darren Harry Baine praised his team's resilience and determination.
“Gameweek Two was a thrilling experience for AK47z. We came in with one thought: get the six points to close the gap on our fellow Aga Khan team. I’m happy with the boys’ resilience. Even when we did not start positively against the Olympians, we stayed together and didn’t give up,” Baine said.
“Beyond football, that is a reflection of the Aga Khan mentality. Give it your all, and the outcome will reflect what you put in.”
The upcoming meeting between the Hawks and 47z will now carry added significance, with top spot and early bragging rights at stake.
Meanwhile, Taibah Spartans have also emerged as potential title contenders after extending their unbeaten start with a surprise victory over defending champions Kabojja Warriors.
The Spartans have collected seven points from three matches and remain within striking distance of the leaders.
Captain Dhanani Aman said the team has returned stronger after learning from last season's shortcomings.
“It’s been a positive start to the season, with two wins and one draw from our first three matches. Last season didn’t meet our expectations, but we’ve learned from it and come back stronger,” Aman said.
Harambee Stars also continued their promising campaign with a 2-1 victory over KISU Lions, while Vienna Titans endured a difficult weekend after a draw with ISU Leopards and defeat to Kabojja Warriors.
Despite the results, captain Richard Magezi believes the team's performances show they remain competitive.
“The quality of football we’re playing isn’t matching our points tally. We’re united as ever and even hungrier to succeed,” Magezi said.
Defending champions Kabojja Warriors remain in the hunt despite an inconsistent start to their title defence. Their victory over Vienna Titans moved them to seven points, but the absence of key players, including last season’s Golden Boot winner Daniel Malong, has affected their early momentum.
With only five points separating third-placed Tank Hill Titans and 10th-placed ISU Leopards, the competition remains wide open.
The spotlight, however, will now shift to the Aga Khan derby, where Hawks and 47z will battle for supremacy in what could become one of the defining fixtures of Season Three.
