Police in the Wamala Region have launched investigations into the murder of a woman who was found with fatal stab wounds inside her home in Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Lydia Nansubuga, also known as Madam, who was discovered on the morning of July 11, 2026, at around 10:30 a.m. in Bamunanika Cell, Katakala Ward.

According to the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, the incident came to light after a neighbour, Eron Nampewo, sent her child to buy groceries from Nansubuga's retail shop. When the child took unusually long to return, Nampewo decided to follow up.

Upon reaching the shop, she found the victim's seven-year-old daughter sitting at the entrance. When asked where her mother was, the child reportedly said she was inside the house and was unwell.

Moments later, Nampewo heard the victim crying out for help.

"The victim reportedly shouted, 'Help me, I am dying.' When the neighbour entered the house, she found her lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries," SSP Kigozi said.

The neighbour immediately alerted the Local Council I chairperson, who responded together with other residents. They attempted to rush Nansubuga to Mityana General Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries before they could leave the scene.

Police were notified of the incident, prompting a homicide team from Mityana Central Police Station to visit and examine the scene.

"Our crime scene officers documented the scene, recorded witness statements and recovered a suspected knife with blood stains approximately one metre from where the victim was found," SSP Kigozi said.

The body was later taken to Mityana General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

"We are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspect or suspects involved in this murder," SSP Kigozi said.

He appealed to residents of Bamunanika Cell and the surrounding communities to cooperate with investigators by providing any information that could assist the inquiry.

"We urge anyone with information that may help our investigations to report it to the nearest police station. Community cooperation is vital in ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice," he added.

No arrests had been made by the time of filing this report, and investigations remain ongoing.
