Canon Betty Ogwang has officially assumed leadership of the Inner Wheel Club of Kampala, pledging to prioritize membership growth, strengthen friendship among members, and expand community service during her 2026–2027 term.

The Inner Wheel Club of Kampala is a voluntary women's service organisation affiliated with the Rotary Club , primarily composed of wives and female relatives of Rotarians.

Speaking during her installation ceremony, Ogwang expressed gratitude to members of Inner Wheel District 900 for entrusting her with the presidency, describing the opportunity as both an honour and a call to serve with humility and dedication.

“I stand before you with great excitement and humility to accept the role of President of the Inner Wheel Club of Kampala. I am honoured and ready to serve,” she said.

Ogwang unveiled her presidential theme, "Grow and Flourish," which will guide the club's activities throughout the year. She said the theme will focus on strengthening friendship among members, expanding membership, and enhancing service to vulnerable communities.

Highlighting the importance of unity within the club, Ogwang said friendship forms the foundation of growth, likening the organization to a tree that depends on strong roots.

“A club cannot grow without members and friends. This year, we intend to root ourselves deeper in friendship while actively recruiting and mentoring new members who will help us flourish for years to come,” she said.

The incoming president also paid tribute to her predecessor, President Harriet, under whose leadership two new clubs—Seeta and Ntinda—were established. While describing the expansion as a significant milestone, Ogwang noted that it also reduced Kampala's membership from about 50 active members to approximately 30, underscoring the need for renewed recruitment and retention efforts.

On community service, Ogwang outlined key priorities, including continued support for elderly residents at Bakateyamba Home of the Elderly. She emphasized the importance of ensuring dignity and care for older persons, drawing inspiration from biblical teachings on honouring parents.

“Our seniors have contributed immensely to this country. We want them to enjoy their later years with love, comfort and compassion,” she said.

The club also plans to improve maternal healthcare by supporting a maternity centre with essential medical equipment to promote safe childbirth.

“No mother should die while bringing life into the world,” Ogwang stressed.

Additionally, the Inner Wheel Club of Kampala will continue its outreach programmes for disadvantaged children through All Saints Cathedral and sustain its quarterly donations to compassion ministries.

In her concluding remarks, Ogwang called on members to dedicate their time, ideas and prayers to ensure the success of the club's mission.

“Our focus is on growing in friendship, flourishing in service and increasing our membership. Let us grow together, flourish together and make this year count,” she urged.

She formally assumed office before introducing her executive committee, which will support the implementation of the club's priorities for the 2026–2027 year.

The Inner Wheel Club of Kampala is part of a global women's service organization committed to promoting friendship, personal service and international understanding through charitable initiatives.
