Residents and leaders in Kassanda District have welcomed renewed government commitment to upgrade the long-promised Myanzi–Bukuya–Kiboga road to bitumen standard, saying the project is expected to ease transport, strengthen trade, and improve service delivery across the area.

The assurance was given by Kassanda Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mike Ssegawa, who said government remains committed to implementing the project despite long delays that have frustrated local communities for years.

He said the road, which links Kassanda District to Kiboga District through Bukuya, remains a key infrastructure priority for the region.

Ssegawa said the commitment was reaffirmed by President Museveni during his campaign visit to Kassanda District ahead of the general elections.

“Government has not abandoned this project. The President made a commitment to the people of Kassanda, and we remain optimistic that construction of the Myanzi–Bukuya–Kiboga road will commence. Once completed, it will greatly improve transport and stimulate economic growth in the district,” Ssegawa said.

He added that upgrading the road would reduce transport costs, improve access to markets for farmers, and attract investment into the district, which largely depends on agriculture and trade.

Ssegawa also called on Members of Parliament and other elected leaders from Kassanda to coordinate efforts in lobbying for additional government funding for development projects, saying a united approach would improve the district’s chances of securing resources.

“Development requires a united voice. Our leaders should continue engaging government so that Kassanda secures more resources for roads, health services, education, and other priority sectors,” he said.

He noted that while government continues to allocate funds for road infrastructure across the country, demand still exceeds available resources.

“The needs are many, yet resources are limited. That is why every leader must actively advocate for Kassanda so that the district receives its fair share of development funding,” Ssegawa added.

Residents said the tarmacking of the Myanzi–Bukuya–Kiboga road would open up a vital transport corridor, improve movement of goods and services, and unlock economic opportunities in the area.

Local leaders expressed optimism that continued government investment in road infrastructure will accelerate development and improve livelihoods across Kassanda District.
