Speaking during the handover and takeover ceremony of the office of the Deputy Contingent Commander, Brig Gen Kayanja praised Col Aragamoi for his leadership in supporting the execution of major operations that contributed to restoring peace and stability in Somalia.

The Contingent Commander particularly credited Col Aragamoi for his role in Operations Silent Storm, Hidden Sword and Rolling Thunder, which he said played a significant role in the liberation and stabilisation of Sabiid-Anole, Barrire, Awadglee, Mubarak, Durasalaam, Jerib and Danane.

"Col Aragamoi has performed exceptionally well during his tenure as Deputy Contingent Commander. His leadership in Operations Silent Storm, Hidden Sword and Rolling Thunder greatly contributed to the mission's success. He has been hardworking, dedicated and cooperative," he said.

Brig Gen Kayanja noted that the achievements registered during Col Aragamoi's tenure reflected the professionalism, commitment and teamwork of the UPDF contingent in implementing the AUSSOM mandate.

The Contingent Commander also welcomed Colonel Jude Rukubya as the new Deputy Contingent Commander, expressing confidence that his experience and leadership would further strengthen the contingent's ability to deliver on the mission's mandate.

Speaking after assuming office, Col Rukubya pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor through teamwork, discipline and professionalism in support of efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in Somalia under the African Union mandate.

In his farewell remarks, Col Aragamoi expressed gratitude to the UPDF strategic leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility to serve in Somalia.

"I sincerely thank the UPDF strategic leadership for the opportunity to serve in the mission area. I am equally grateful to the Contingent Commander for his guidance and support during my time in office," he said.

The ceremony also featured the handover and takeover of the office of the Contingent Operations Officer, with Lieutenant Colonel Garvas Kabagambe handing over duties to Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Tibenda Uma Savimbi.

The event was attended by senior officers, junior officers and non-commissioned officers serving under the UPDF contingent in AUSSOM.
