PLU Secretary General Fadil Warns Against Impersonators Using Organisation’s Nam

The newly appointed Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Twalla Fadil, has warned individuals against impersonating the organisation and using its name to allegedly extort money from members of the public.

On Wednesday, Fadil said his office had received reports of individuals presenting themselves as PLU officials despite not being part of the organisation’s recognised leadership structures.

“My office has noted that there is a lot of impersonation by individuals calling themselves PLU and using non-existent groups branded as PLU to extort people,” he said.

Fadil also raised concern over what he described as the deliberate or unintended undermining of existing PLU leadership structures in some districts and sub-regions.

“I have also noted that there is either deliberate or unintentional undermining of existing structures so far formed in some sub-regions and districts,” he said.

He clarified that PLU has one official organisational structure and that no parallel or subsidiary structures have been created outside those appointed by the organisation’s chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

“First and foremost, PLU is one organisation, and there has been no creation of subsidiary structures except the appointed structures done by our chairman,” Fadil said.

He added that existing leadership structures would remain in place as the organisation expands to lower administrative levels.

“In areas where structures were appointed by our chairman, we shall maintain the status quo. Those structures will help us build the district/municipality, sub-county/division, parish/ward, and village/cell coordinators in sub-regions where leadership already exists. However, we are first going to complete regional structures before scaling downwards. The appointed structures must be respected,” he said.

Fadil appealed for patience from PLU supporters in areas where regional structures are yet to be established.

“I call upon your patience as we wait for our chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to appoint the remaining sub-regions,” he said.

He further directed that all activities conducted in the name of PLU must first be cleared by his office in consultation with the chairman.

“That said, all activities related to or planned to include PLU must be presented to and cleared by the office of the Secretary General, with guidance and consultation from our able chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to avoid extortionist tendencies and putting PLU in a bad light,” he said.

Addressing PLU supporters in the diaspora, Fadil acknowledged their concerns and said they would be forwarded to the organisation’s top leadership for consideration.

“For the diaspora community, I have noted your concerns and, in due course, I will share them with our chairman for a way forward,” he said.

PLU is a civic organisation chaired by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and has in recent years been expanding its organisational structures across different parts of the country.
