Government-supported schools have until midnight Tuesday to register all candidates for the 2026 national examinations or risk missing out completely, the Uganda National Examinations Board has warned.

UNEB said schools benefiting under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE) and Universal Post O'Level Education and Training (UPOLET) programmes will not be allowed to register candidates during the late registration period that begins on July 1.

Jennifer Kalule said heads of government-supported schools must ensure that every eligible candidate is registered before the online registration system closes at midnight.

"Heads of government-supported schools that are paid for by government under UPE, USE and UPOLET are reminded to register all candidates before midnight tonight. These will not be accommodated under the late registration period," Kalule said.

June 30 marks the final day for normal registration without a surcharge. UNEB said heads of examination centres can still upload additional candidates after submitting the main batch, but separate invoices will be generated for those learners before the registration window closes.

According to the Board, provisional registration for the 2026 examinations has reached 1,605,501 candidates, comprising 915,614 candidates for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), 490,817 for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and 199,070 for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

The examination fees remain unchanged during the normal registration period at Shs34,000 for PLE, Shs164,000 for UCE and Shs186,000 for UACE.

Kalule said schools and private candidates who fail to complete registration by midnight will only have the month of July to register under the late registration arrangement, which attracts a surcharge.

"Today, June 30, is the final day for the normal registration of 2026 candidates. The online registration process without payment of a surcharge closes at midnight," she said.

She added that the late registration exercise will run from July 1 to July 31, after which no candidate will be accepted for the 2026 examination cycle.

The Board urged school heads to complete the process before the deadline to avoid inconveniencing candidates, particularly those in government-aided schools that will not benefit from the late registration window.

The latest figures indicate a continued increase in candidate numbers across the three examination levels, underscoring the growing demand for education services and the importance of timely registration to ensure smooth planning and administration of the national examinations.
