Ecobank Uganda has appointed seasoned finance executive Dunstan Ian Rukare as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
The appointment was announced by the bank’s Board in a congratulatory statement issued on Thursday.
“The Board, Management, and Staff of Ecobank Uganda Limited are pleased to congratulate Mr. Dunstan Ian Rukare on his appointment as an Independent Non-Executive Director,” the bank said.
Ecobank said Rukare’s experience will strengthen its governance and strategic direction.
“With a steadfast commitment to financial integrity and operational excellence, we are confident that Mr. Rukare’s extensive expertise will strengthen our governance frameworks. We look forward to his strategic guidance as we continue to champion higher banking standards, foster innovation, and deliver exceptional value to our stakeholders across Uganda,” the statement added.
Rukare is a veteran finance executive with more than 20 years of experience across several African markets, including Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Eritrea.
He currently serves as Global Financial Operations Director at UpEnergy, a role he has held since December 2021.
Before joining UpEnergy, Rukare worked for more than eight years at The Coca-Cola Company, where he held several senior finance positions. These included Commercial Finance Director for the West Africa Business Unit, Commercial Finance Director for Chi Limited, Regional Finance Manager for the East Africa Franchise, and Financial Services Manager for the Central, East and West Africa Business Unit.
Earlier in his career, he served as Financial and Human Resources Manager at Gas Natural Fenosa during the construction and operation of the 250MW Bujagali Hydroelectric Power Plant in Jinja.
Over the years, he has led complex financial operations, managed multi-country portfolios, overseen major investment projects and supported corporate expansion across the continent.
Academically, Rukare holds an Advanced Management Program certificate from The Wharton School, a Master of Business Administration from The University of Manchester and is ACCA-qualified in Accounting and Finance.
Ecobank Uganda said the appointment comes as the bank continues to strengthen corporate governance, innovation and sustainable growth in Uganda’s banking sector.
