The developments have prompted Mpigi District Chairperson Simon Peter Kawuki to call for coordinated efforts among traditional healers in the district to help restore calm in the affected community.
According to residents, the village has for months experienced unexplained occurrences that they say have damaged property, disrupted daily life and caused fear among households in the area.
The situation has also drawn concern from religious leaders in Mpigi, who have warned against increasing reliance on traditional spiritual practices.
Fr Leonard Sempijja Musisi said communities should turn to faith-based solutions, expressing concern about the growing presence of shrines in parts of the district.
“We need to return to God. In Mpigi today, many people seem to trust satanic practices more than God,” he said.
Residents say that following earlier complaints, a traditional healer was invited to the village on Sunday after a community fundraising effort to investigate the alleged disturbances.
They claim the healer moved from house to house conducting rituals and allegedly recovered objects believed to be associated with witchcraft practices.
“The healer moved around the village examining different homes. He dug up several suspicious items, including charms and other objects that shocked us,” residents said.
However, villagers say the situation worsened after the intervention, with renewed disturbances reported during the night.
“We thought the problem had ended, but the disturbances returned with even greater intensity,” some residents said.
Some individuals further alleged they were physically attacked by unseen forces, claims that authorities have not independently verified.
“They seemed angry and kept accusing us of bringing them here. I felt something strike me and later noticed injuries on my body,” one resident alleged.
The residents say they are now uncertain whether the intervention resolved the problem, arguing that the reported return of disturbances raises doubts about its effectiveness.
“How can someone claim to have removed them only for them to return stronger than before?” one resident asked.
Mpigi District Chairperson Simon Peter Kawuki said he had received numerous complaints from residents and called for collective action among traditional healers to address the matter.
Simon Peter Kawuki urged calm and encouraged collaboration among practitioners to find what he described as a lasting solution.
“I have received numerous complaints from residents of Nyomero. I therefore call upon all traditional healers in Mpigi District to come together, hold discussions and help find a lasting solution for the community,” he said.
Authorities have not issued a formal explanation for the reported incidents, but local leaders say efforts are ongoing to establish the facts and restore normalcy in the village.
Residents say the situation has affected households, with claims of property damage and heightened fear, though these accounts remain unverified.
Officials have urged calm as investigations and consultations continue.
