Ephrance Kenyonyozi has made history after being officially sworn in as the first female LC5 chairperson of Kitagwenda District since the district was created.
Kenyonyozi took oath on Monday at the district headquarters during a ceremony attended by political leaders, civil servants and residents.
In her maiden speech, she pledged to strengthen service delivery across the district, with particular focus on the education and health sectors.
“We are going to work tirelessly to ensure that our people receive better services, especially in schools and health facilities. Our leadership must bring real change to the lives of the people,” Kenyonyozi said.
The new district chairperson also addressed longstanding allegations of corruption and extortion within the district, particularly in recruitment processes handled by the district service commission.
“For a long time, our people have complained about corruption and exploitation in the process of securing government jobs. Some job seekers have reportedly been extorted by individuals entrusted with public office. This must stop,” she stated.
Kenyonyozi assured residents that her administration would promote transparency and accountability in public service recruitment, noting that a new district service commission has already been instituted to restore public confidence.
“We now have a new service commission that will ensure fairness and transparency. Government jobs are not for sale, and every qualified Ugandan deserves an equal opportunity,” she emphasized.
She further called upon political leaders, technical staff and residents to work together in advancing development and improving service delivery across the district.
“I call upon all leaders and wananchi to unite for the development of Kitagwenda. We can only transform this district if we work together and put the interests of the people first,” Kenyonyozi added.
Residents and local leaders welcomed her election, describing it as a historic milestone that reflects growing confidence in women’s leadership and renewed hope for integrity in governance.
Her swearing-in comes at a time when many residents in the district are demanding improved accountability, transparency and better public services.
