Newly elected leaders in Nakaseke District have been sworn in, with officials urging them to prioritise service delivery and honour commitments made during the campaigns.
The swearing-in ceremony held in Kapeka Sub-county began at around 11:00 a.m. and attracted local leaders, residents, and supporters who witnessed the formal assumption of office by the new leadership.
Kapeka Sub-county Chairperson Lukowe Author was among the first officials to take the oath of office, followed by councilors who were also sworn in to begin their terms.
However, the exercise briefly faced challenges after some councilors reportedly struggled to take the oath in English, prompting officials to administer it collectively as a group.
After the ceremony, the councilors held their first council sitting where they elected Namuddu Justine as the new Speaker, who later also took her oath alongside committee members.
A moment of confusion was also recorded when the chairperson of the Works and Production Committee, Fred Bakira, was reportedly introduced with academic credentials that did not match his own.
Speaking during the event, Ignatius Komu Kiwanuka urged the new leaders to remain focused on service delivery.
“Leaders should remember the promises they made to the people during campaigns and ensure they provide better services to the communities that elected them,” Kiwanuka said.
He also called on residents to be patient as the new leadership begins implementing its plans.
Kapeka Sub-county Chairperson Lukowe Author pledged to prioritise road infrastructure and improved service delivery.
“My priority will be improving roads and ensuring services reach the people effectively,” he said.
Other leaders at the ceremony urged unity and commitment among the newly sworn-in officials as they begin their tenure.
