The celebrations kicked off at around 11:09am when Ntungamo Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rosemary Atuhaire flagged off a procession from the NRM offices in Ntungamo Municipality.

The crowd included local leaders, boda boda riders and residents, many carrying giant yellow foam gloves and wearing reflective jackets and NRM-branded T-shirts, creating a vibrant display across the town.

As music blared from vehicles and public address systems, the procession moved through major streets before returning to the NRM offices.

Participants danced enthusiastically to songs praising Museveni and the ruling party, describing the occasion as a celebration of what they called decades of stability and development.

Speaking during the event, Ntungamo NRM Administrative Secretary Johnson Nkirirehi praised the President for what he described as transforming Uganda since 1986.

“We are privileged to celebrate the swearing ceremony of our beloved President. During his tenure since 1986, we have benefited a lot. Infrastructure has improved, the economy has risen, and we are enjoying peace more than other countries. Security is tight,” Nkirirehi said.

Leaders and supporters also used the occasion to highlight local development priorities, including increased coffee seedlings to boost production, expansion of road funding, establishment of a public university and the administrative division of the municipality to improve service delivery.

Ntungamo District LC5 Deputy Chairperson Asuman Kigongo commended government programmes but urged increased funding for roads and the Parish Development Model (PDM), saying current allocations were insufficient for the district’s needs.

“We thank the Almighty God. This has been great for the country. The focus now should be on our roads. We have been receiving one billion shillings but Ntungamo is a vast district. One billion cannot take care of all our roads. We request government to increase it and also increase money for PDM,” Kigongo said.

Deputy RDC Atuhaire congratulated Museveni on beginning another term, commending him for what she called his sacrifices in stabilising Uganda.

“We congratulate you and we are with you in this swearing-in ceremony and for the continued leadership you have rendered to this country,” she said.

Throughout the celebrations, supporters repeatedly praised the NRM government for maintaining peace and enabling economic programmes such as the Parish Development Model to reach communities.

The event ended with renewed chants of support for Museveni as leaders urged residents to continue embracing government development initiatives aimed at improving household incomes in Ntungamo District.
