Buganda is Not a Problem Center, it is a Source of Hope – Katikkiro Mayiga

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has emphasized that Buganda should not be portrayed as a center of problems but rather as a source of hope, while dismissing claims by some people that they are being marginalized.

The Katikkiro made the remarks while visiting students residing at Royal Boys Hostel in Bukesa, where he officially opened a newly constructed block named after him. The hostel accommodates male students studying at Mengo Senior School and was established with the aim of ensuring that the boy child is equally supported just like the girl child.

During his visit, Mayiga toured the hostel facilities and interacted with the students to assess their academic environment, talents, and leadership development programs. The hostel is managed by Prince Tonny Wasajja.

The students informed the Katikkiro that more than 300 boys have passed through the hostel since its establishment. They explained that the initiative was started after realizing that the boy child had often been neglected and lacked proper mentorship on responsible living and leadership.

“This hostel has helped shape us into responsible young men with discipline, leadership skills, and focus on our future.”

Prince Tonny Wasajja noted that he has consistently worked to nurture young boys from Buganda by instilling discipline, integrity, and life skills to prepare them for their future responsibilities.

“We are committed to grooming boys into responsible and trustworthy citizens who can positively contribute to society,” said Prince Wasajja.

While addressing the students and invited guests, Katikkiro Mayiga criticized the tendency by some people to focus only on Buganda’s challenges instead of highlighting opportunities and progress.

“Some people have turned Buganda into a story of endless problems, yet Buganda should be a source of hope. That mentality must stop,” Mayiga said.

He also urged young people, especially students, to be courageous, disciplined, and mindful of time in everything they do.

“Young people must learn to be brave and do everything at the right time if they are to succeed in life,” he added.

The Katikkiro further thanked Prince Tonny Wasajja for creating a conducive environment that supports students academically and morally.

He noted that the environment in which a student studies plays a major role in shaping their character and future success.
